Three Challenges for Delivering Apps
Like the Gold Rush of the 1800s, organizations are moving their applications en masse to the new promise land of the cloud in hopes of finding IT simplicity, cost reductions and increased mobility for their disparate users.
For some, the efforts have paid off in spades with tangible ROI and higher productivity. While for others, the tantalizing riches always seem to be just out of reach.
So we want to offer a word of caution before you pack up all your applications in the hopes of striking cloud gold: please try to remember where you came from. In other words, don’t forget about those on-premise investments that you’ve built over the years and continue to perform up to your expectations.
Just because there’s a new cloud option out there doesn’t mean you should rip out those on-prem apps to migrate and/or develop them to be cloud native. In fact, it might not make financial sense at all.
The simple truth: they can all work together—if you can overcome these common challenges related to delivering applications.
Simplifying management
If you’re adopting a multi- or hybrid-cloud strategy, you’ve got to find effective ways to manage and control all these applications, whether they are deployed on-premise or developed in the cloud.
But as many are realizing, that often means disparate environments that have to be managed separately—which can mean more time, effort and resources are needed to keep them all running smoothly.
Creating seamless experiences
In the quest to be more mobile-centric and user friendly, enterprises are creating more app variations than ever and delivering them from a variety of locations. But the benefits of deploying from the cloud—namely, sophisticated monitoring tools—don’t extend to those apps still being served up out of your datacenters. So if app issues are causing poor user experiences, limited IT visibility can make these issues seem like finding a needle in the haystack before those productive employees start to complain that they can’t get their work done.
Expanding flexibility
Lastly, are the challenges of scalability and performance as your business grows and expands. As workloads increase, do you have the resources to manage and deliver it all to a global user base? Ideally, through the use of automation, you can do more with less and be able to configure, provision and deploy at scale to meet your increasing business demands.
The good news is, each of these challenges can be easily overcome with a software-based application delivery controller or ADC. Because they’re built to work across your various on-premise and cloud-based infrastructures, an ADC can deliver the holistic visibility, tools and automation needed to merge your old app environments with the new—and deliver the all the riches that the cloud has promised.
